"Omeshi" takes its name from "Shogun-sama no Omeshi-mono" (Clothing of the Shogun) because it was favored by Tokugawa Ienari, the 11th Shogun of the Tokugawa family.
"Nishijin Omeshi" is a type of yarn-dyed fabric produced in the Nishijin district of Kyoto. It is characterized by the use of pre-matured and pre-dyed silk threads and a special type of thread called "omeshi-ito" that creates a unique texture known as "shibo".
